by Ingy The Wingy

RC helicopters and vehicles are not just only for the little ones. Even though children do enjoy speeding around a parking lot with their small scale Porsches, climbing rock piles with an RC monster truck or else dominating the skies with their replica fighter planes, adults also enjoy to go back to their childhood days, controlling a boat to rescue their buddies or flying a chopper into rival territory to save a platoon from certain doom.

Helicopters can be, in some cases, very difficult to master due to pitch (movement forward and back along a horizontal axis), roll (banking or leaning left to right) and yaw (the movement of the copter along with the vertical axis) and the fact that remote control helicopters can move in any direction instantaneously. Even, the main challenge is in controlling the rotor blades. A fixed pitch helicopter means that the rotor blades are fixed hooked on to only single place and the altitude is determined by the speed or revelations per minute of the blades while pitch and roll are dictated by two separate servos which might be attached to the rotor head and might be tilted in the direction you want your helicopter to go.

Some other kind of helicopter is the collective pitch helicopter; this means, that the angle of the main rotor blade can easily be changed to achieve a more constant gyroscopic speed.

Yes, this all sounds very scientific and dry but once you grow accustomed to flying a RC helicopter, you can find several hrs of fun and enjoyment to be had flying these wonders of gadget making tools. Like other remote control vehicles, there can be many different types of RC helicopters to be found in the market today. The electric dual rotor is reputed to be the simplest of all RC copters to fly to. These are normally more for hanging and learning in ones garden but the single engine rotor type that can be used more for specific exercises. Though it may look like easy, much patience will be needed but most likely, you’d crash a lot. Have no fear, control will come with time and then there is the Nitro type that is for experienced flyers only and most be flown on approved flying fields. This is for the big dogs.

These are a few things you can enjoy and learn about RC vehicles, namely helicopters. Go out and enjoy flying the friendly skies.

by pommesschranke

Remote controlled vehicles are more than just toys especially if you buy the slightly more expensive and advanced models. It becomes more of a hobby where you can do many things such as testing your vehicle in new terrain or participating in intense races with other RC vehicles. In fact, you can take that hobby even further by getting involved with hobby RC airplanes that literally take your remote control experience to new heights. When you first got into RC cars, you should have experienced the time when you had to choose from all these different models. Expect to go through that again because there are different types of RC plane models each with their strengths and weaknesses. Some of these hobby RC airplanes are intended for experienced flyers but others are very easy for beginners to try out.

Trainer Airplanes

The trainer RC airplanes are the best choice for any beginner that wants to know basic flying tips and general fundamentals that apply to the advanced models. Their performance is best if you fly them when the weather is calm and not excessively windy. You even get a better experience if you can find a trainer that can teach you all the nice things you can do with these basic models.

Park Airplanes

Park airplanes are similar to trainer hobby RC airplanes in terms of level of experience but they are smaller in size making them more suitable for smaller areas like parks and backyards. Many of these planes are handheld so you can travel easier with them.

Foam Airplanes

Foam airplanes are best described as lightweight and durable at the same time. The foam material makes them extremely safe and crashing the RC plane should not really inflict much damage.

If ever you have damaged parts, finding foam materials are easy to come by. It is even better if you get the hobby RC airplanes that are made of expanded polypropylene (EPP). You can even fly these during a rainy day as the material is waterproof. These foam hobby RC airplanes also fall in the category of electric powered airplanes because they make use of batteries rather than gasoline. This also brings down the operating and maintenance costs. If you have that artistic ability, you can try customizing or painting them as well.

Electric Powered Airplanes

Electric powered airplanes serve as a nice balance between price and performance. If the above-mentioned types of hobby RC airplanes are too basic or limited in function, a safe step ahead would be to go for any of the other electric powered airplanes that you find in stores. You won’t have to worry about things like nitro or gasoline so you can spend more time flying and replacing or recharging batteries the same way you would charge normal electronic devices.

Gas Powered Airplanes

Gas powered hobby rc airplanes are for the enthusiasts that want extra performance and realism. Only try these types of RC planes if you are very familiar in maneuvering the electric airplanes. Although they require more maintenance and skill, you get more flexibility and sophisticated controls so you can do all kinds of exhibition moves. From there, you can even go more advanced by trying to fly jet engine powered RC planes that real flight experts use.

Ft. Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) April 07, 2013

South Florida-based childrens charity Bright Steps Forward has partnered with popular crowdfunding website ClickStartMe to provide a much-needed therapeutic device, the Pediasuit, to Joshua Stewart-True, one of the nations few survivors of Shaken Baby Syndrome. Joshuas development has remarkably progressed since he started receiving therapy using a Pediasuit at Ft. Lauderdales Therapies4Kids, and this crowdfunding project will allow Joshua to continue to make progress when he returns to his home in Washington state.

Before starting Pediasuit therapy, Joshua was in the fetal position 90% of the time, could not sit on his own, could not hold his head up without assistance, and standing or walking seemed out of the question, said Leo deOliveira, one of Joshuas therapists and the inventor of the Pediasuit. But since using the Pediasuit, Joshua has taken steps on his own, can hold his head up without assistance and can sit up. He is even making strides towards feeding himself. Joshuas incredible progress is documented in a video accompanying the ClickStartMe crowdfunding project.

Joshua will soon be returning to Washington from the Pediasuit clinic in Florida, and at that time will need his own Pediasuit to continue to make progress. Joshuas grandmother, Carlene Schultz wants to make that trip with a Pediasuit in tow. With all of Joshuas medical bills and other expenses, the family simply cannot afford to buy a Pediasuit, so Bright Steps Forward and Pediasuit stepped in to help, deOliveira said. By crowdfunding this Pediasuit, Joshua will keep progressing and one day be able to walk on his own and feed himself.

Joshua grandmother has nothing but praise for Pediasuit and the progress it has allowed his grandson to make, As far as Pediasuit goes, right now, it has given him a future brighter than we ever expected.

According to deOliveira, the Pediasuit provides a safe environment for developing both mobility and strengthening in children with developmental problems from a number of maladies including cerebral palsy, autism, brain injuries and shaken baby syndrome. The fundamental purpose of the Pediasuit program is to support weak and tight muscle groups by providing stability and assistance from the proximal muscle groups. Pediasuit users receive benefit from engaging in activities in multiple planes of motion while being in several positions (prone, seated, standing, locomotive). According to deOliveira, the mechanics and use of the Pediasuit are easy to learn.

Bright Steps Forward is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping other children and founded by Leo and Eileen deOliveira, who also operate Therapies 4 Kids. Leo deOliveira is also the inventor or the Pediasuit, which is used in the United State and countries around the world to assist in the physical therapy and development of children with several physical ailments.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 22, 2013

The General Accountability Office (GAO) released a study on the Jones Act and its affect upon Puerto Rico this week. The Study shows that the U.S. domestic container shipping fleet has provided regular, reliable service while offering significant rate reductions.

The Study notes that most of the cargo shipped between the United States and Puerto Rico is carried by four Jones Act carriers that provide dedicated, scheduled weekly service using containerships and container barges. Jones Act dry and liquid bulk cargo vessels also operate in the market. This allows shippers to meet just in time needs for the local population and businesses as warehousing on the island is limited.

Importantly, the Study found that the average freight rates of the four major Jones Act carriers in this market were lower in 2010 than they were in 2006.

This Study disproves the simplistic charge that the Jones Act is responsible for higher consumer prices in Puerto Rico, stated Mike Jewell, president of the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association (M.E.B.A.).

Foreign-flag carriers serving Puerto Rico from foreign ports operate under different rules, regulations, and supply and demand conditions. Shippers the GAO contacted reported that they often experienced lower freight rates when shipping from foreign ports versus U.S. ports to Puerto Rico. However, data was not available to allow GAO to validate the examples given or verify the extent to which this difference occurred.

This was an opportunity for the Jones Act nay-sayers to provide facts to back up their rhetoric. They didnt do so because the facts are not on their side, said Bill Van Loo, Secretary-Treasurer of M.E.B.A.

The GAO Study states, The effects of modifying the application of the Jones Act for Puerto Rico are highly uncertain, and various trade-offs could materialize depending on how the Act is modified. While proponents of this change expect increased competition and greater availability of vessels to suit shippers’ needs, it is also possible that the reliability and other beneficial aspects of the current service could be affected. Furthermore, because of cost advantages, unrestricted competition from foreign-flag vessels could result in the disappearance of most U.S.-flag vessels in this trade, having a negative impact on the U.S. merchant marine and the shipyard industrial base that the Act was meant to protect.

The Jones Act applies to maritime transport of cargo between the United States and Puerto Rico, and requires that such cargo be carried by vessels that are (1) owned by U.S. citizens and registered in the United States, (2) built in the United States, and (3) operated with predominantly U.S.-citizen crews. The general purposes of the Jones Act include providing the nation with a strong merchant marine that can provide transportation for the nation’s maritime commerce, serve in time of war or national emergency, and support an adequate shipyard industrial base. Other nations around the world also have similar cabotage laws that protect and promote their own merchant maritime fleets.

About the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association

The M.E.B.A., Americas oldest maritime labor union, supplies U.S. Coast Guard-licensed deck and engineering officers in both the U.S. domestic and international trades including Jones Act trade to Puerto Rico. The Union was established in 1875. Its members serve aboard containerships, tankers, tugs and barges, research vessels and ferries. In wartime, M.E.B.A. members have sailed in virtually unarmed merchant ships delivering critical defense cargo despite attacks from enemy aircraft, submarines and warships. In times of peace, our members still face dangers such as piracy on the high seas in order to serve their country.
